A marked increase in prevalence of monophasic Salmonella enterica, particularly serovar 4,[5],12:i:- strains with resistance to ampicillin, streptomycin, sulfonamides and tetracyclines(R-type ASSuT) has been noted in food-borne infections and pigs/pork meat in several European countries in recent years.
