Neglected zoonotic diseases: Chlamydia and Rickettsia infections
Marta Pérez Sancho defended this presentation at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid in order to obtain the Master of Research
According to the OIE, zoonoses are those diseases and infections naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and humans. The vast majority are not priorities in health systems nationally and internationally and are therefore classified as Neglected. These diseases include chlamydial and rickettsial diseases, pathologies purpose of this study. In this research period we have focused on the study of Chlamydophila psittaci in the city of Madrid, although we have initiated the study of Rickettsia spp. There has been development of molecular techniques for detection of these pathogens first as…

Integrons detection in Escherichia coli isolates through PCR technique
Presentation by Mauricio Alejandro Marchant Mella to obtain the Master of Research. Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Complutense University of Madrid
Massive administration of antibiotics in human and animals has promoted the acquisition of resistances genes that can be exchanged by conjugation, transformation or transduction into the same or different bacterial species. A few decades ago, the researchers were focused in genes dissemination through plasmids and transposons as mobile elements. Nowadays the past investigations are the bases to understand the new discoveries, being integrons responsible of genetic transmission of resistance and multiresistance.
Integron or integration elements were first proposed by Strokes and Hall in 1989.…

Molecular epidemiology of Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium caprae. Spanish database
Sabrina Rodríguez Campos defended this presentation at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid in order to obtain the Master of Research
Micobacteria are classified into three groups according to their pathogenic characteristics and the clinical picture they produce. Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium caprae belong to the M. tuberculosis complex, along with M. tuberculosis (human bacillus), M. africanum (heterogeneous group primarily found in equatorial Africa), M. bovis BCG (vaccine strain derived from M. bovis), M. microti (rodent bacillus), M. canettii (African strain) y M. pinnipedii (seal bacillus). These pathogens cause tuberculosis, a zoonosis which presents an important problem in domestic animals, wildlife, and publ…
